| University of Washington
In 1992 the University became the first facility in America to install 5 KV Class paralleling switchgear with a UL label. The University chose ASCO Synchropower Switchgear for this trend-setting installation, which serves both the medical center and the upper campus. The original installation included gear to parallel two 2,000 KW, 4,160 volt generator sets with the University's 5 megawatt steam turbine power plant, and/or two separate feeds from Seattle City Light. In 1998 the University added a third diesel generator set and the existing ASCO gear was modified with a new generator control cubicle. Mostly recently in 2003, two more gen-sets were installed and the ASCO gear was once again upgraded with new 5 kV distribution sections, two new generator control cubicles and updated master controls. Total on-campus generation capability is now 15 megawatts, all controlled and managed by ASCO UL labeled 5 kV switchgear. | ||||||||||||||
